Bio
We are Mr. Lizard, five twentysomething lads living in Manchester. We share a love of good music and a distaste for all things fashion based. We believe that good music is good music, regardless of current trends and fads.

In early 2007 Phil McMullen joined on drums, completing our lineup of Mark Roberts (vocals), Simon Owen (Lead Guitar, Keyboard), Neil Williams (Rhythm Guitar) and Paul Mcloughlin (Bass). Mark, Neil and Simon began playing and writing together aged 15, starting out playing covers and progressing to writing songs together.

We spent most of 2007 playing clubs and venues on the Manchester unsigned circuit and recorded a 3 track demo EP. We produced 100 copies which promptly sold out, received airplay and praise from Clint Boon on XFM Manchester.

In 2008 we are looking to build on our following in Manchester, record more songs and play gigs further afield to broaden our fanbase.

Our influences are fairly eclectic, drawing on artists from a variety of genres including Americana, Britpop, Post-rock and straight up Rock and Roll. Some of our favourites include REM, Joy Division, Mogwai, Elliott Smith, Oasis and Rage Against the Machine.

Open Up Your Eyes EP (Released Summer 2007)

Manchester’s very own Mr Lizard are most probably at the very beginning of their band careers, but so far they’re coming up with something a little different to the fashionable requirements found elsewhere in the guise of choppy guitars and accented tales of faux back street adventures.

Instead singer Mark Roberts has a fine rock voice, infected with a nicely poised wobble that makes for obvious comparisons to Brian Molko. From the upfront new rock of “Open Your Eyes” to the Sci-Fi ballad of “Talking Backwards” the band have ambitions that are only restricted by their recording budgets and the apparent use of weedy guitar effects.

This should not however distract from the carefully thought out songs and inherent potential of a band who are using their originality to their advantage. “You Don’t Notice” may be basic, but it demonstrates that at the very least they may be onto something. - ManchesterMusic.co.uk
